I love all things planning. If I’m a nerd about anything, it’s about planning. Just writing those two sentences excites me! Whether or not you love planning as much as I do, there are so many reasons why your child needs a student planner as part of their homeschooling journey.

Moms have so many plates to juggle. When you add homeschooling into the mix, it makes the juggling that much more challenging.

As a homeschool graduate and veteran homeschool mom, I can promise you that it is worth learning to juggle to homeschool your children.

5 Reasons Why Your Child Needs a Student Planner

  • They need to grow

As your children get older, they will need you to begin handing over the reins of their education. This may seem like a crazy thought, especially if you are homeschooling littles, but I promise it is a necessary step.

Giving your children the opportunity to begin being responsible for a bit of their own education is a great step for their growth. They need to know you believe that they are capable of learning to do things on their own.

  • They need to become independent learners

This is an essential part of a child’s homeschooling journey. You will not always be there to encourage them to learn something new or show them how to go about learning something new. They have to figure it out on their own.

I began handing over my children’s education to them early on in our homeschooling journey. As a stay-at-home mom, I was able to read their lessons with them and then move on to my own tasks for the day. They knew that if they had a question or were struggling with a concept, I was close by to help if needed.

  • They need to learn organization

Teaching children to be independent learners is important, but in order to do that, they must first learn the skill of organization. While you’ve likely taught your child how to organize their room, clothing and toys. Organizing their homeschooling journey is a bit more detailed.

A child needs to learn how to organize their day. A student planner is a simple way to begin to teach or build on their basic organizational skills.

  • You need to lighten your load

It’s true and you know it. Too often, homeschool moms don’t want to ask for help because we think we have to do it alone. After all, didn’t we make the choice to homeschool our kids? Why should we ask for help with that which we chose to take on ourselves?

Your child having a student planner will help lighten your daily load. They will become responsible for keeping track of their daily tasks, schedule, chores, etc. As they get older, you can also hand over to them tracking their grades as well.

  • You need to prepare your child for their future

If you’re always doing everything for them, how will they be able to function when they’re out on their own? It’s natural for a mom to want to do things for their child, but if we’re not careful, by doing so, we will be holding them back.

Putting together a daily schedule, organizing using a planner and creating and completing checklists are skills that will serve your child well throughout their lifetime.
