Make it easy for your kids to share what they’re learning about science with this Science Media Lesson Worksheet!
Using media to teach science is a great option ~ especially for visual and auditory learners. If science just isn’t your cup of tea, there are an abundance of science homeschool resources available, many of which are free!
How to Use This Science Media Lesson Worksheet
- Make a plan
Take time to figure out what about/in science your kids want or need to learn about. It could be niche-based or subject-based, for example: ocean animals or chemistry, fall leaves or astronomy.
- Spend time researching
There are a lot of media resources that cover various science topics. You’ll need to research media outlets and show specifics to find the right content ~ both topic- and age-appropriate for your kids.
- Create a list
After completing your research, create a list of the media resources (TV shows, DVDs, streaming services, apps, etc.) that you want your kids to work through.
- Establish a schedule
You’ll need the amount of time or quantity of episodes for each media resource to establish a schedule to follow.
- Download and print!
Download a copy of the free science media lesson worksheet below for each of your kids. I designed this resource to make it easy for your child to share what they learned about science. In addition, they’ll note what media they learned it from, making tracking and filing easy for you!
- Ready? Set. Play!
Sit your kids down (and maybe you with them?!) and hit play. Enjoy the break and let someone whose passion is science teach for a bit!
- Complete the worksheet
After the show is finished, hand out the worksheets to your kids to complete. Take time to read each worksheet after they’ve finished. You might be surprised at the different things they learned from each other or even discover a passion for a subject you hadn’t seen before!
Science is not my favorite subject, at least not the “typical” science topics. I love nature and animals.
Kids do need to learn more about science than just the great outdoors sometimes. I utilized multiple media resources to teach my kids about science topics that weren’t my strong suit throughout our homeschooling journey.
No one can teach every single subject well. Don’t put this pressure on yourself. Be open to finding people or resources to take on subjects that you aren’t comfortable with or even just don’t want to teach.
By doing so, this will free up time for you to embrace and teach other subjects/topics well! Making it a win-win situation for you and your kids!
