As homeschooling parents we get the privilege to pick and choose what our children will read, whether for fun or homeschool assignments. As Christian homeschooling parents, we look for books that are not only age-appropriate, but are in line with our Christian beliefs. It can be tough to find faith based literature that fits the conservative Christian values we adhere to, especially as the kids get older.
All of the books listed below are faith based literature, but that doesn’t mean they are all right for everyone. Please be sure to read reviews and do your own research to determine if these are a fit for your own children and family. They have been divided into three easy sections for you to browse, but again, those are just guidelines. Some reading may be more advanced than your child’s level, or not advanced enough, so be aware these are just general guidelines.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth didn’t have any shape. And it was empty. -Genesis 1:1-2 (NIrV) In Space & Time, kids get a taste of these two concepts and how they are related. From spinning planets, glowing comets, burning stars, and pinwheeling galaxies, to a discussion about bowling balls on a trampoline (that explains how space and time warp)-and much, much more-scientifically accurate concepts are discussed in kid-friendly language. Add drawings, photos, and fun facts, and young scientists see the awesome and intricate plan God had in mind when he created the heavens and earth.
And God said, “Let there be a huge space between the waters…” And that’s exactly what happened…God called the huge space “sky.” -Genesis 1:6-8 (NIrV) In Sky & Sea, kids explore the water cycle of our very wet planet-the vast seas below and the great ocean of air swirling above them, with its clouds full of rain and snow. From dramatic storms and crashing lightning to the aurora borealis and shimmering rainbows, amateur scientists learn how air and water work together to make this planet livable, in kid-friendly language and concepts. Add drawings, photos, and fun facts, and kids see God’s wonderful blueprint for life in the vastness of the sea and sky.
“Let the water under the sky be gathered into one place. Let dry ground appear.” And That’s exactly what happened. God called the dry ground “land.” -Genesis 1:9 (NIrV) In Rocks & Plants, kids explore the physical world, examing the often overlooked details of planet Earth, and leaning about some of the wonders that lie hidden just above and beneath its surface. Exploding volcanoes that birth small islands, plants that save lives, floods that carve out cliffs and caves, the recycling of our atmosphere-and much, much more-are investigated in kid-friendly language and concepts. Add drawings, photos, and fun facts, and young scientists see that the awesome power and splendor of God is echoed in Earth’s fossils, stones, and mountains.
This rhyming, rollicking tale tells of a crime of cosmic proportions: the moon, blinded by pride, fails to see the true source of his abilities-the light provided by the sun. He boasts of his ability to shine, to change shape throughout each month, and to swell the tides. One day, overwhelmed by a piercing ray of sunshine, the moon repents of his pride and changes his ways, and from that point on he is happy to reflect the sun’s light.

In these fantasy stories for adults, we encounter, once again, magical creatures, a world of wonders, epic battles, and revelations of transcendent truths.
Out of the Silent Planet is the first novel in C. S. Lewis’s classic science fiction trilogy. It tells the adventure of Dr. Ransom, a Cambridge academic, who is abducted and taken on a spaceship to the red planet of Malacandra, which he knows as Mars. His captors are plotting to plunder the planet’s treasures and plan to offer Ransom as a sacrifice to the creatures who live there. Ransom discovers he has come from the “silent planet”—Earth—whose tragic story is known throughout the universe!
The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis is a classic masterpiece of religious satire that entertains readers with its sly and ironic portrayal of human life and foibles from the vantage point of Screwtape, a highly placed assistant to “Our Father Below.” At once wildly comic, deadly serious, and strikingly original, C.S. Lewis’s The Screwtape Letters is the most engaging account of temptation—and triumph over it—ever written.
In the classic Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis, the most important writer of the 20th century, explores the common ground upon which all of those of Christian faith stand together. Bringing together Lewis’ legendary broadcast talks during World War Two from his three previous books The Case for Christianity, Christian Behavior, and Beyond Personality, Mere Christianity provides an unequaled opportunity for believers and nonbelievers alike to hear this powerful apologetic for the Christian faith.
Martin Luther’s Ninety-Five Theses forever changed the world. This is one of Christianity’s most important documents. It was not, as most people assume, Luther’s explanation as to why he was separating from the Catholic Church, but it was a shot across the bow of a corrupt system that eventually lead to the Reformation. Also included in this edition are seven of Luther’s most important sermons including Christ’s Holy Sufferings, Enemies of the Cross of Christ & the Christian’s Citizenship in Heaven, Christ Our Great High Priest, On Faith & Coming to Christ, Of The Office of Preaching, The Twofold Use of the Law & Gospel: “Letter” & “Spirit,” and The Parable of the Sower.
The small town of Ashton is the unexpected setting for an epic clash between good and evil as a Christian preacher and a news reporter unearth a plot to take over their small community, and eventually the world. Unseen supernatural forces are at play, as armies of angels and demons wage battle, with groups of Christians and New Agers influencing what they cannot see by the power of prayer.
Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker-two of the most acclaimed writers of supernatural thrillers-have joined forces for the first time to craft a story unlike any you’ve ever read. Enter House-where you’ll find yourself thrown into a killer’s deadly game in which the only way to win is to lose . . . and the only way out is in. The stakes of the game become clear when a tin can is tossed into the house with rules scrawled on it. Rules that only a madman-or worse-could have written. Rules that make no sense yet must be followed. One game. Seven players. Three rules. Game ends at dawn.
An ancient sin. A long forgotten oath. A town with a deadly secret. Something evil is at work in Hyde River, an isolated mining town in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. Under the cover of darkness, a predator strikes without warning—taking life in the most chilling and savage fashion. The community of Hyde River watches in terror as residents suddenly vanish. Yet, the more locals are pressed for information, the more they close ranks, sworn to secrecy by their forefathers’ hidden sins. Only when Hyde River’s secrets are exposed is the true extent of the danger fully revealed. What the town discovers is something far more deadly than anything they’d imagined. Something that doesn’t just stalk its victims, but has the power to turn hearts black with decay as it slowly fills their souls with darkness.
The sleepy, eastern Washington wheat town of Antioch has become a gateway for the supernatural—from sightings of angels and a weeping crucifix to a self-proclaimed prophet with an astounding message.

The startling secret behind this visitation ultimately pushes one man into a supernatural confrontation that has eternal consequences.

Often disguised as something that would help him, evil accompanies Christian on his journey to the Celestial City. As you walk with him, you’ll begin to identify today’s many religious pitfalls. These are presented by men such as Pliable, who turns back at the Slough of Despond; and Ignorance, who believes he’s a true follower of Christ when he’s really only trusting in himself.
