Winter is always a busy season for us, so finding a way to continue homeschooling without having an overflowing schedule is important. This year we’ll be reading through all of J.R.R. Tolkien’s, Lord of the Rings books as part of our winter homeschooling. I’m excited to read through this series with my kids as I’ve never read any of them. After we’ve finished reading The Hobbit, we’ll be completing this Hobbit Book Study as well!
I am passionate about my children reading quality literature that doesn’t just entertain. There are plenty of times when they read books just for fun, but I still make sure that there are plenty of classics in their reading pile. My son had wanted to watch the Lord of the Rings movies with his dad for a couple of years. However, I am very picky about what my kids watch on TV because once you’ve seen something you can’t unsee it. I also believe that if a movie is based on a book, the book should be read first. So, before he was allowed to watch any of the LOTR movies, he was required to read all of J.R.R. Tolkien’s books first.
Looking back he is very glad that I made him read the books prior to watching the movies. Homeschool mom win! 🙂
Inside The Hobbit Book Study you’ll find discussion questions, vocabulary work, compare and contrasting and more!
