Music. Everyone enjoys it, but not everyone enjoys the same type of music. So, can you make music fun for everyone?

make music fun, how to make music fun, ways to make music fun, music fun

In our family, we all like different styles and genres of music. From techno to top-pop, from classical to country, from doo-wop to punk-rock.

With that wide range of interests, you might wonder, how do you make music fun for everyone?

6 Ways to Make Music Fun for Everyone

  • Sing Karaoke

Whether your family can carry a tune in a bucket or not, this is a fun music activity for everyone.

My husband bought our daughter a Singing Machine for Christmas one year. Thanks to free karaoke music on YouTube and that Christmas purchase, we have a lot of fun singing karaoke together.

  • Read Together

There is always a story behind the music.

Whether you read favorite musicians’ biographies, the story behind everyone’s favorite song or the history of a particular genre, reading about music can bring it to life AND start great/important conversations with your kids!

  • Dance Party

Someday I’d love to learn how to really dance, but until then I enjoy kicking up my heels with only my family.

Whether you enjoy using a game like Just Dance or simply take turns dancing to each other’s favorite songs, a dance party can be a simple and super fun way to make music fun for everyone!

  • Watch Musicals

Not only are musicals enjoyable, but they are educational. Some of my favorite musicals focus on history, which means you’re covering music, history and much more all at once!

There are many different styles and genres of music covered through musicals. From rock-n-roll in Bye-Bye Birdie to opera in The Phantom of the Opera

  • Play Name that Tune

This is one of our favorite games to play together as a family.

Each family member will have fun taking turns trying to stump everyone often by using their favorite songs/genre, so it is important to pay attention to each other’s music in order to win!

  • Learn Together

It is easy to turn on the radio or an app and listen to your favorite beats. In fact, that’s what often happens in our house.

However, I believe it is important for everyone to have a basic knowledge of music in order to truly appreciate it. While neither of my children actively play an instrument, they were taught how to read and play music from a young age.

It really is true that if you aren’t musical, you can still make music fun for everyone. Do not let your lack of skill or knowledge keep you from enjoying music with your kids.

One of my favorite facts about homeschooling is that parents get to learn alongside their kids! Not sure where to start? Praise Hymn has an amazing music curriculum that I absolutely love!

God Made MusicKindergarten through 7th Grade

The entire God Made Music series utilizes Student Workbooks, Teacher’s Manuals, Music Cards, CD packets or MP3s for their music curriculum. There is also an optional piano accompaniment resource (including guitar chords) for all arrangements on the CDs or MP3s.

The key to the God Made Music Series is the teacher’s manuals. Praise Hymn refers to them as a “self-teaching” resource because everything you’ll need to teach and instruct your children is included.

Inside each of the Teacher’s Manuals, you’ll find a scope and sequence outlining each lesson (31-34 lessons per year), the coordinating student workbook and teacher’s manual pages, the lesson concept and music/song selection.

Any instructions you’ll need as the teacher are printed in black type, what you need to say is printed in red type, instructions to your children are printed in green type (or are noted with a pencil icon) and any additional information is printed in blue type.

Each of the student workbook pages is printed with answers as part of each lesson within the teacher’s manual. A precise objective and materials list is printed at the beginning of each lesson.

I know just how important researching curriculum is as a homeschool mom. You not only need to make sure that your kids will like it, but you also need to ensure that it will work for your homeschool and teaching styles and schedule.

Thanks to the digital world we live in, you can flip through samples of curriculum online with a click of your mouse. This makes researching and shopping for homeschool curriculum a breeze!

Each of the links below will show you sample pages for each year of the God Makes Music Curriculum which will help you determine if it is a good fit for your family.

In addition to their printable/downloadable curriculum, Praise Hymn has also started creating video courses for their music curriculum.

Book 1, designed for 1st grade, of the God Made Music Series is the first in the series available with a video course option. Included in the monthly or yearly video course subscription is digital downloads of the Student Workbook, Teacher’s Manual, Tips for Teacher’s and 34 video lessons.

Each of the video lessons is approximately 20 minutes in length and student workbook pages coordinate with each lesson.

Please note that the Student Workbook and Teacher’s Manual are the same in the video course as the printed or downloadable courses. So you will not need to purchase these resources separately if you enroll in the video course.

Video is a great way to get your kids really interested and enjoying what they’re learning. Being a visual learner myself, I not only enjoy educational video resources, but I learn best when I use them in conjunction with written resources.

I’m excited to see the rest of this amazing music curriculum come to life through their future video courses!

The printable/downloadable God Made Music curriculum is a fantastic resource for those with music or teaching backgrounds as this is not an open-and-go curriculum that students can teach themselves.

If you’re comfortable opening up the amazing Teacher’s Manuals and teaching from them, I have no doubt your students will succeed!

In addition to their God Made Music series, Praise Hymn also offers a 4 volume piano course that uses hymns to teach how to add chords and runs, modulate, transpose, arrange, and accompany for congregational singing and Let’s Read Music which teaches students how to read music in 25 lessons.
