Winter days are shorter and there are fewer opportunities to go outdoors, so reading is a great pastime to invest in to help your children expand their imagination and curiosity.

Although we spend more time indoors during the winter, it can still be hard to engage your child in a habit of reading. The holiday season places more demands on our schedules than any other time of year; forcing us to be more intentional in reminding our children to read.

One way we can inspire them to want to read without being reminded is by making reading fun, or even a game!

You can easily bring the holidays and all of the colors, smells, and characters of the holiday season into reading; making it more exciting and adventurous for them. Some may even begin to look at reading as a special treat because they find it so fun.

This is what parents dream of!

This Winter Reading Bingo Card does just that. It is bursting with 29 fun, winter and holiday activities that promote reading in a fun and magical way with challenges that include: Reading under a Christmas tree, reading while eating conversation hearts, reading a fairy tale and reading to a sibling or neighbor.

This Winter Reading Bingo Card can be used in many different ways.

You can pair it with your usual Advent celebration or plan a special winter outing when your child reaches his or her first BINGO

You can turn it into a family challenge and invite grandparents and cousins to join you, doing a Christmas candy exchange when everyone has a BINGO or a chocolate exchange when the entire card is filled.

You can even invite your neighborhood, homeschool co-op or church friends to join in and plan a special field trip or winter outing when everyone has a BINGO.

Make this winter season fun and magical by giving your child fun reading challenges, inspiring him or her to view reading in a whole new way.
