Get your freshman’s first year of high school literature planned out easily using this Ninth Grade Book List to start.

The high school years are unlike any other grades you’ve encountered. On top of the changes your teen is going through emotionally, high school changes things in many ways.

For years you feel like your kids might never grow up. Like you might actually have a Peter Pan.

Then one day it happens. They grow up. It really does, take my word for it. In my experience, it happened overnight. Literally.

Finding literature for your brand new high schooler can be challenging because you know they’re growing up and should be ready for deeper reads…but often at 14 years old, they don’t act like it.

Still, it is time to start assigning literature to them that will challenge them. To cause them to learn through critical thinking, historic events, the lives of others and more.

High school literature can still include fun reads, but it needs to be more introspective and educational to help properly prepare your teens for life outside the walls of your home.

My kids favorite books from their freshman year of high school include everything Jane Austen or World War II, ‘Moby Dick‘ and ‘Ivanhoe‘.
